Matt Stone 'working through the motions' for 2026 line-up
Cameron Hill off-contract, Nick Percat contracted through end of 2027
MSR, BJR, Team 18, PremiAir, Erebus, BRT all have potential openings
Matt Stone is keen for continuity into 2026 with his driver line-up, but admits "the silly season gets sillier and sillier every year.”
Matt Stone Racing, Brad Jones Racing, Team 18, PremiAir Racing, Erebus Motorsport and the Blanchard Racing Team have at least one seat unconfirmed for next season.
The future of Cameron Hill is set to become a hot topic in coming weeks as silly season speculation ramps up, as it usually does in July and August.
Hill won in Melbourne and held a top 10 championship position until last weekend, when an untimely brake failure dropped him out of a provisional Finals spot.
In the standings, the Canberran is still ahead of teammate Nick Percat, who is contracted with MSR to the end of 2027.
“For us, we have got a bit of momentum going in the team and we would certainly like to carry that forward into next year,” Stone said in Townsville.
“We think we have been building over the last few years and we’re quite happy with where we are.
“We obviously want to build more and get a bit further up the championship and definitely get two guys in the Finals.
“We’d love to carry that momentum into next year, but the silly season gets sillier and sillier every year, so we’ll just work through the motions and see where we end up.”
Should Hill move away from MSR, he would end up in any of the three brands on the 2026 grid, with BJR switching to Toyota, Team 18, Erebus and PremiAir sticking with Chevrolet and BRT running Fords.
Hill is no stranger to Toyota, winning the first five Toyota 86 races in 2016 and finishing third in the standings, before backing it up with second in 2017.
Andre Heimgartner is locked in at BJR for 2026, while team owner Jones hinted son Macauley is set to go around again. Jaxon Evans and Bryce Fullwood have yet to confirm their plans.
BRT will have a change with James Courtney’s retirement, Jack Le Brocq (Erebus) is off-contract, and Team 18 has an option on David Reynolds.
Another unknown is PremiAir, which has not publicly outlined the details of James Golding nor Richie Stanaway's contracts.
