Mark Beretta’s much-anticipated second book, Mark Beretta’s Greatest Moments in Australian Sport, has gone on sale.
The hardcover book celebrating the most incredible moments in Australian sport since 2000, went on sale on October 25.
The popular sports broadcaster and Channel Seven talent has had a front-row seat for the last 30 years of Australian sport.
In his second book, Beretta audaciously counts down to the greatest moments of them from the Australian Women’s T20 World Cup cricket to Ian Thorpe’s five gold medals in Athens and includes an emblematic occasion in Supercars’ history.
Craig Lowndes and Jamie Whincup wrote their name into the history books in 2008, combining to win their third consecutive Bathurst 1000 title.
Emulating Peter Brock and Larry Perkin’s feat in 1984, the record-breaking win catapulted Whincup to the championship lead and moved Lowndes to fifth on the all-time Bathurst winners list.
Reliving the iconic day in Australian motorsport, Mark Beretta’s Greatest Moments in Australian Sport includes new insights from both Lowndes and Whincup.
“What makes the great moments stand out is the impact they have on the nation,” Beretta told Supercars.com.
“All the emotion around the loss of Peter Brock in 2006, the year of Craig and Jamie’s first win, and the enormous outpouring of sadness from Craig, the tears before the start, and then still jumping into the car to drive the first stint, battling all day, and finally getting the win, was unforgettable and the stuff of Australian sporting legend.
“That incredible moment with Craig and Jamie on the podium receiving the trophy, created in memory of his mentor and mate, was so memorable.
“Sitting down with Craig and Jamie to relive that day and all the emotion that went along with it, it’s clear it’s had a huge impact on them and will stay with them for the rest of their lives.

“How Craig especially rose to the occasion with all that was going on inside him is remarkable.
“We all know how hard it is to win at the Mountain, how you need everything to go right, so to come back in 2007 and again in 2008 and win, to make it three in a row, is a feat that is unlikely to be repeated in this incredibly competitive era we have moved into.
“It well and truly belongs amongst Australia’s greatest sporting moments!”
Beretta joined Channel Seven in 1995 and has since anchored the sports coverage on Australia’s number-one breakfast TV show, Sunrise.
He currently skippers Seven’s Supercars’ coverage and was a feature of the pit lane in Seven's last stint between 2007 and 2014.
An athlete himself, Beretta is a 10-time Australian water ski champion and was a silver medallist at the Singapore International Masters.
In 2021, he was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for charitable services to the community, through his work with Tour de Cure.
His previous book was The Riders, published in 2010.
The Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 will be held 28-30 October and broadcast live on Fox Sports and the Seven Network.
