Latest sign of Team 18's new GM factory status revealed
Team 18 replaced Ford-bound Triple Eight as GM's homologation team in Supercars
New GM homologation team installs major Chevrolet Racing branding
Team 18’s new era as General Motors’ homologation team in Supercars continues to take shape.
In April, Team 18 was announced as GM’s new homologation team, replacing Ford-bound Triple Eight Race Engineering.
Ahead of this weekend’s Century Batteries Ipswich Super 440, the Charlie Schwerkolt-owned team revealed it has installed major Chevrolet Racing signage at its Melbourne base.
At the surface, they may seem like simple Chevrolet Racing signs, but it’s yet another effort by the manufacturer to catch attention in its bid to stay at the top of Supercars.
In January, Triple Eight shocked the Supercars world with a headline-grabbing defection to the Blue Oval, having dominated for 15 years in GM cars.

After initial fears over GM’s immediate future in Supercars, the powerhouse brand launched into action.
Notably, GM poached Triple Eight’s tech guru Jeromy Moore, re-signed Craig Lowndes, and signed former Holden motorsport boss Simon McNamara.
From 2026, while Team 18 is the designated HT, GM also wants its teams to work closely together and share information as part of a ‘Chevy Alliance’.
Team 18 has also bolstered its staff with a two ex-Supercars engineers, with team representatives set to head Stateside in coming weeks alongside fellow Chevrolet teams to visit GM’s US motorsports arm.
While there’s no indication Team 18 will be renamed, similar to the Holden Racing Team in the Holden days, GM didn’t close the door to rebranding opportunities at the time of the Team 18 announcement.
Team 18 moved into its new Mount Waverley headquarters earlier this year.
