The 952-day streak ended by Golding crash

There were many blows to come from an untimely crash in Townsville for James Golding, who saw his impressive 'iron man' streak come to an end.

The PremiAir Racing driver's Saturday race ended just three corners into the 200km affair, with Golding's Chevrolet catching air in a frightening incident.

After Cam Waters, Thomas Randle and Jaxon Evans collided, Golding was left with nowhere to go, and crashed heavily into the wall after riding up Randle's Ford.

Golding was out on the spot, a feeling he hadn't experienced in 952 days, since December 2022.

Before Townsville, the Victorian's last DNF came at the 2022 Adelaide 500, when he was forced out with car troubles. He hadn't crashed out of a race since the 2022 Gold Coast 500, when he triggered a shocking pile-up at the beach chicane.

All told, Golding's finish streak ended at 72 races.

The longest streak still belongs to Will Davison, who has recorded 75 consecutive finishes since the 2022 Gold Coast 500. It continues an impressive run for Davison, who recorded 46 DNFs in 454 starts between 2004 and 2020.

Davison and Golding were two of a a record 12 drivers to finish all 24 races last season, along with champion Will Brown, Broc Feeney, Chaz Mostert, Thomas Randle, Nick Percat, Andre Heimgartner, David Reynolds, Mark Winterbottom, James Courtney and Macauley Jones.

Feeney, who leads the championship this season, has finished 74 straight races since he was also caught up in the same 2022 pile-up on the Gold Coast.

Already in 2025, Reynolds, Courtney and Jones have recorded DNFs, Courtney suffering an engine failure in Townsville while running in the top 10.

The most damage was done on the scoreboard for Golding, who is now 16th and 166 points behind 10th. Just three rounds ago, Golding was 11th, but only 15 points from the 10.
