Two famous Dick Johnson Racing Falcons are nearing completion in a major restoration project in the Blue Mountains.

DJR ran EB Falcons for Johnson and John Bowe in the 1993 and 1994 Australian Touring Car Championship seasons.

The two cars that raced in 1993 — chassis EB2 and EB3 — are being restored in John Vergotis’ JCV Automotive workshop.

Bowe famously raced chassis EB2 to the very first round victory of the new V8 Group 3A era at Sydney’s Amaroo Park.

The EB2 and EB3 combined for three wins in 1993, Johnson also winning at Amaroo and Lakeside.

Johnson and Bowe shared chassis EB3 at that year’s Bathurst 1000, with Johnson crashing out.

While EB3 never raced again, Bowe carried EB2 into 1994 (see main picture) before switching to a new chassis midway through the year.

Johnson and Bowe then combined to win the 1994 Great Race in chassis EB5.

That remained DJR’s last Bathurst win before Scott McLaughlin and Alex Premat won the 2019 Bathurst 1000.

In a social media post, Bowe was hopeful that once the Falcons are completed, they will return to the track via Historic Touring Cars categories.

"Nearing completion in the Blue Mountains workshop of John Vergotis are the two 1993 Falcon V8s that Dick Johnson and I raced in 1993,” Bowe wrote.

"EB2 and EB3 I think they were, with EB2 being mine, and as car 18 won the very first round of the championship at Amaroo Park in the new V8 era. Great memories!

"They are being restored to genuine period correct spec, to the last nut, bolt and rivet!

"Hopefully we will get to see them on the racetrack again since Historic Touring Cars have now allowed early Supercars and Super Touring Cars to race in the Group C and Group A races!

"Historic racing is in good health."

Bowe is currently competing in his final full campaign in the Touring Car Masters category.

DJR Supercars drivers Will Davison and Anton De Pasquale are 11th and 18th in the points heading to the next round in Perth.

The 2023 Repco Supercars Championship will resume at the Bosch Power Tools Perth SuperSprint on April 28-30.
