Erebus Motorsport has lodged an intent to appeal Will Brown’s late Race 32 penalty.

Brown made contact with Scott Pye late in Sunday’s Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 finale.

The field was bunched together following a lap 71 Safety Car period for the stranded Thomas Randle.

On lap 82, Pye was running eighth and was behind Cam Waters and Team 18 teammate Mark Winterbottom.

Winterbottom went down the inside of Waters, who had just been passed by Brown’s teammate Brodie Kostecki.

Pye and Brown were in close proximity behind, and were forced to slow down at the apex.

Brown unloaded Pye towards the barriers, and was handed a 15-second time penalty for a driving infringement.

It came after Pye was penalised for a Safety Car restart infringement.

Kostecki crossed the line an impressive fifth, with Brown eighth.

Brown was reclassified 12th, which became 11th after Anton De Pasquale was disqualified.

Speaking on Supercars’ Cool Down Lap podcast, Brown said he couldn’t avoid contact.

“We should’ve been P8, obviously the contact at the last corner… I’ll call it messy,” Brown said.

“Everyone was going left, right and centre and I got caught on the outside.

“Just couldn’t avoid it in the end, I was on the brake trying not to have the contact with Scott.”

Supercars Driving Standards Advisor Craig Baird later confirmed to Supercars.com that Erebus' intent to appeal has been lodged.

Per B5.2 in the Operations Manual, an appeal must be lodged “within 92 hours of being advised of the Stewards’ decision against which an Appellant seeks to Appeal”.

That gives Erebus until Thursday to gather evidence and submit its appeal.

Brown is just 109 points from the top 10 in the standings, with Kostecki eighth.

Erebus is just 70 points behind fifth-placed Penrite Racing in the teams’ standings.
