Dissecting the silly season

Now Scott McLaughlin’s move to DJR Team Penske is out in the open, driver movement has been a key topic as we get further into the 2016 Supercars season.

The Inside Supercars ‘journo’ panel dissected the silly season, analysing out-of-contract drivers and teams with openings for next year.

Host Greg Rust and legend Mark Skaife were joined by New Ltd’s James Phelps, Fairfax’s Mark Fogarty and motoring.com and supercars.com contributor Bruce Newton, to talk openly about the hot topics in Supercars this week.

Both Holden Racing Team drivers James Courtney and Garth Tander are yet to be locked away for 2017, as is former Walkinshaw racer Nick Percat. Darwin race winner Michael Caruso’s future is yet to be confirmed, and Scott Pye is looking for a new home with McLaughlin taking his current seat next year.

The Dunlop Series is showcasing plenty of young talent, with leader Jack Le Brocq publicly saying he hopes to find an avenue into the main game next year. Second placed Prodrive teammate Garry Jacobson is in the mix, along with Garry Rogers’ next prodigy James Golding, who could be a possibility for McLaughlin’s seat next year as the Kiwi moves on.

There’s no doubt plenty is going on behind the scenes in the break before the Red Rooster Sydney Motorsport Park SuperSprint.
