Dual errors, the second race-ending, have left Davison brothers Will and Alex devastated.

Older brother Alex recorded his first Bathurst DNF in 18 starts after Will crashed at Griffin’s Bend.

The #17 Shell V-Power Ford was forced to play catch-up after Alex fired off at The Chase on lap 30.

The brothers hauled the Mustang back into contention, with Will holding a top 10 spot.

However, a crash at Turn 2 on lap 141 ended what loomed a stirring comeback.

The #17 topped the Sunday Warm Up, and two practice sessions.

Anton De Pasquale and Tony D'Alberto finished seventh in what was Dick Johnson Racing's 1000th race.

“So disappointed to not finish the race today,” said Will, who dropped from third to fifth overall.

Davison whacks the tyres at The Chase

"We worked so hard to get ourselves back in the fight after an early incident.

"Unfortunately, I made a slight mistake on cold tyres.

"I’m absolutely gutted that we couldn’t finish the race and keep battling.”

It marked Will’s first Bathurst DNF since he crashed out late on in 2010.

Alex said his Chase error forced Will to push harder than required to make up ground.

"Unfortunately, once the track dried out, I locked a front brake at The Chase, which greatly ruined our day,” Alex said.

"Fortunately, we were able to get the car out and get back onto the lead lap during a Safety Car.

“Will did an amazing job to gain all those positions and getting us back into contention.

"Unfortunately, Will had an off and that was the end of it.”

On his error, Alex said: “I feel bad that I put us in a position.

"Will was having to push like hell and was under more pressure than we should have been.

"I’m pretty disappointed in myself for making that mistake.

"I’m very thankful for everyone in the team, they worked so hard all week and did an amazing job."

The 2022 season will continue at the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 on October 28-30.
