Jamie Whincup has admitted he feels "a bit underdone” for the upcoming Repco Bathurst 1000.

Whincup transitioned into team management this season, with Broc Feeney taking the reins of the #88 Commodore.

The Supercars Hall of Famer has now overseen seven rounds as Red Bull Ampol Racing’s Managing Director and Team Principal.

Whincup got behind the wheel of Triple Eight’s wildcard Commodore at The Bend earlier this week.

Before then, seldom has Whincup lapped a Supercar this year.

He turned laps aboard a Red Bull Ampol Supercar for the Albert Park speed comparison, and has sparingly lapped the Gen3 Camaro.

At the time of publication, there are 82 days until the Repco Bathurst 1000.

With Red Bull Ampol Racing just 10 points ahead of Shell V-Power Racing Team in the teams’ championship, Whincup’s input will be crucial.

“I’m keen to be back,” said Whincup in Red Bull Ampol Racing’s 'Quarterly Report' video.

“I haven’t done much driving for six months.

“I feel a bit underdone actually, I feel like I need to do some laps in the coming months.

“I’ll get back in the car, we’ve got some ride days coming up.

“There’s a co-driver session at Sandown as well. Looking forward to cutting some laps and getting up to speed again.”

Whincup put debate of whether or not he would race a Supercar again to bed last month.

Whincup has aided Feeney's progression

The four-time Bathurst winner was confirmed alongside Feeney, with Garth Tander returning alongside Shane van Gisbergen.

It came as Triple Eight confirmed Craig Lowndes and Declan Fraser will share a Triple Eight wildcard.

Whincup's workload will be eased somewhat as Roland Dane returns to manage the wildcard entry trackside.

While he will be fully in Feeney’s corner in Bathurst, Whincup said at the time of the announcement that the best possible result for the team is the priority.

"All three cars we take to the mountain this year will have nothing but equal opportunity to deliver a result,” Whincup said.

"With myself piloting the #88, I look forward to working with the guys to dial in the cars during the week and then of course help each other in the race where possible.

"I can assure you the 50-plus people at Triple Eight don’t care which Triple Eight car wins the Great Race, as long as it’s one of us.”

The 2022 season will resume at the OTR SuperSprint on July 30-31. Purchase your tickets now.
