Tickford star Cam Waters has shown impressive pace in a speedway cameo at the final Archerfield Speedway meeting.

Waters, who raced in rural Victoria last summer, returned to the seat of his Chief Racing V6 entry for the last races at Archerfield.

The Supercars driver was part of a massive 71-car field in the two-day event, with a host of speedway stars also on show.

Waters’ weekend began with the third-fastest time in the time trials, a strong return given the car was damaged during the two-day drive to Queensland from Victoria.

The 28-year-old started eighth in Heat 1 and finished seventh, before he started from pole for Heat 6.

He led until an error opened the door to Brock Hallet, ensuring Waters started the A-Main from ninth.

Contact saw Waters spin out and forced to start from the rear for the restart, before he worked his way to eighth.

Come Saturday, and Waters started fifth in his heat and battled to sixth, with Waters making the cut to the main event.

Waters was one of 24 cars to race in the finale, and he started 11th. However, with 11 laps remaining, Waters collided with Lachlan Quant.

With the steering bent on the V6, Waters was forced out, with Luke Oldfield taking home a popular win.

"Nice to be part of the last ever Archerfield race. We had a fast car but didn’t really convert,” Waters said.

"The first heat I went forward, but I made a little mistake and then struggled on the restart, so I lost a couple of spots.

"So, instead of probably being in the shootout we started 11th for the A-Main, which is still pretty good.

"The car was speedy to start the A-Main, I was trucking around pretty well but got under a car that ran over my right front, a steering arm was bent putting me out of the race.

"So, a bit of a racing incident, it is what it is. I can’t thank the team and sponsors enough for making it happen. I had a lot of fun this weekend.”

Waters is sixth in the Supercars standings heading to next weekend’s betr Darwin Triple Crown.
