Shane van Gisbergen had to put wet-weather fun aside in a serious battle for victory with Cam Waters.

Van Gisbergen completed an OTR SuperSprint sweep with victory in Race 23.

His charge to win No.14 of the season came after a spirited fight with pole man Waters.

A Waters lock-up at Turn 17 on lap 10 helped van Gisbergen into the lead.

Van Gisbergen won in a canter, crossing the line nine seconds clear.

Speaking after the race, van Gisbergen said he had to be mindful Waters was racing with nothing to lose.

"Today’s race in the wet was really, really fun,” he said.

"I was laughing a lot, but I was having to concentrate a lot as well.

“And also be mindful that Cam had his mind set on winning the race, so I was trying to race clean.

"Every time I passed him, he passed me back cleanly, so I was having a ball.”

Van Gisbergen attacked Waters several times before the lap 10 error by the latter.

Time after time, the two drivers ran down to Turn 1 line astern.

For the rest of the lap, van Gisbergen shadowed Waters, who was the pioneer in rain.

"This track is very hard to read when it's wet,” van Gisbergen said.

"I was trying to follow exactly what Cam did and follow his train tracks but do it better; brake later and try to use more grip.

"When I managed to get in front, I’d lose confidence and he’d manage to get me back.

"It took a bit to figure out but we had a lot of fun out there.”

Van Gisbergen heads to Sandown with an extended 393-point series lead.
