Shane van Gisbergen will start an adjusted eighth for Race 27 after he was penalised for impeding Jack Le Brocq in qualifying.

Van Gisbergen put two wheels on the grass as he allowed Le Brocq passage through to Turn 5.

Le Brocq qualified 11th for Sunday’s opener, with van Gisbergen qualifying fifth.

The series leader later received a three-place grid penalty after an investigation.

Once out of the car, van Gisbergen headed to the Tickford Racing garage to speak with Le Brocq.

“Just in the first one, [Race 27 qualifying] on one of my laps, unfortunately he [SVG] was sitting on the racing line,” Le Brocq said of the incident.

“It’s unfortunate, but it’s for the guys upstairs to look at it to see if there is anything in it.

“Coming down into Turn 4, so yeah, just somewhere along the way.

“But anyway, it's unfortunate, it's hard there, you come over [Turn] 3 and over the hill, but it is what it is.

“Yeah, Shane did apologise, so I appreciate that, it's unfortunate, but we will press on and see how we go this afternoon.”
