The team has said it over the off-season – they can beat the big guns again this year. And Brad Jones Racing has fired the first blow with Lockwood’s Fabian Coulthard recording the quickest time at the sydney.com Test Day, with teammates Jason Bright and new recruit Dale Wood comfortably in the top 10.

With a new aerodynamics package this weekend, all four Nissans finished testing in the top 10, Todd and Rick Kelly close behind Coulthard filling second and third.

The only driver in the 1min30 bracket, Coulthard recorded a 1min30.4787 lap around Eastern Creek Raceway, Todd Kelly just 0.64 seconds behind in the Jack Daniel’s Nissan.

Craig Lowndes and James Courtney cracked the top five, with Shane van Gisbergen, last year’s fastest pre-season runner Bright, Michael Caruso, Wood and James Moffat completing the top 10.

Patchy weather meant it was a mixed bag of testing for the teams, tyre selection also playing a big part with teams able to run both the soft and control Dunlop tyre in dry conditions.

The new Volvos had plenty of running time, rookie Robert Dalhgren 17th and Scott McLaughlin 19th at the end of the second session.

Others to note in today’s results include Russell Ingall 13th after topping the morning session, Lee Holdsworth the first Mercedes in 14th, Jamie Whincup 15th, Chaz Mostert 16th on debut with Ford Pepsi Max Crew, teammate Mark Winterbottom 18th, Garth Tander 20th and Will Davison 25th after his first run with Erebus.
