Richie Stanaway and Garry Jacobson's first laps with their new teams have come amid a flurry of co-driver appearances in Sydney pre-season testing.
Stanaway and Jacobson — two of nine formally confirmed 2023 co-drivers — joined other co-drivers in turning laps of Sydney Motorsport Park on Wednesday.
Earlier this year, Stanaway was confirmed as Shane van Gisbergen’s co-driver for the 2023 enduros.
The New Zealanders will share van Gisbergen’s #97 Red Bull Ampol Camaro at the Penrite Oil Sandown 500 and Repco Bathurst 1000.
Stanaway made his competitive Triple Eight debut at the LIQUI Moly Bathurst 12 Hour earlier this month.
Jacobson, who departed PremiAir Racing midway through 2022, was confirmed in a new-look Tickford Racing co-driver line-up on Tuesday.
It returns the 2016 Super2 champion to the Campbellfield squad, with Jacobson also making his main game debut for the team in the 2017 enduros.
Stanaway on track on Wednesday
Jacobson and Super2 race winner Tyler Everingham will join incumbents James Moffat and Zak Best at the Ford team.
Stanaway, Jacobson and Everingham's respective debuts came during Wednesday’s morning session, with Jamie Whincup also sampling Broc Feeney’s #88 entry.
Garth Tander (Penrite Racing), Jack Perkins (Erebus Motorsport) and Tickford Racing’s quartet were also on site at Sydney Motorsport Park.
Tickford Racing called on its 2023 co-drivers to share Declan Fraser’s #56 TRADIE Racing Mustang, given the Queenslander’s absence.
Fraser was unable to test on Wednesday after being hospitalised over the weekend.
Jacobson, Everingham, Moffat and Best combined to log 45 laps in the morning session.
Van Gisbergen’s former co-driver Tander made his third track day appearance with Penrite Racing, having participated in the team’s two shakedowns at Winton.
Everingham raced for Team 18 last year
Dylan O’Keeffe also suited up on Wednesday for PremiAir Racing, which also invited with two-time S5000 champion Joey Mawson to steer Tim Slade’s #23 Camaro.
Mawson has never started a Supercars race, but Wednesday’s cameo could prove beneficial in his hopes for an enduro call-up.
Erebus Motorsport’s two 2022 co-drivers — Jack Perkins and David Russell — were also present at Sydney Motorsport Park, as was Michael Caruso.
Caruso has raced alongside Mark Winterbottom at Team 18 since 2021.
Fabian Coulthard and Lee Holdsworth were confirmed at Walkinshaw Andretti United last week, and and joined the team at its Winton shakedown.
The Penrite Oil Sandown 500 will be held on September 15-17, with the Repco Bathurst scheduled for October 5-8.
The 2023 Repco Supercars Championship will commence at the Thrifty Newcastle 500 on March 10-12.
