Team Tekno VIP Petfoods' Shane van Gisbergen and Pepsi Max Crew FPR's Will Davison have qualified on the front row ahead of Championship Race 20 at the Sucrogen Townsville 400. Second row consists of both Brad Jones Racing cars, with Fabian Coulthard third and Jason Bright in fourth.

Today is a 70-lap 200km race, with teams required to run both soft and hard Dunlop tyres. To make the distance, they will need to stop for fuel.

But perhaps the biggest story of the ARMOR ALL Top 10 Shootout is who didn't make it – both of the Red Bull Racing Australia Commodores. Jamie Whincup has won a race here every year since its inception and has never started outside the top 10 at the Reid Park street circiut. He starts from 16th. Craig Lowndes is a touch better in 12th.

Craig Lowndes the only car starting on softs.

Will Davison's had a great start and jumped Van Gisbergen. Tander out on the grass. Courtney's jumped into fourth as Bright has dropped four positions.

Damage already to the front of Engel's car.

L3 and Van Gis has the lead back.

L4 Lowndess is down the inside of Winterbottom, up to fifth on soft Dunlop tyres. Whincup on hards has made one position, in 15th behind Tander.

Battle at the back between D'Alberto and the two Norton Hornets. Caruso highest placed in 18th.

L6 and Holdsworth is already out of the car.

L7 and Lowndes has passed Coulthard and Davison for p2.

L9 Lowndes passes Van Gisbergen for the lead.

Oil temperature issue for Todd Kelly – the team is saying he needs clear air.

Craig Lowndes sets fastest lap of the race on lap 12 – 1min14.3330.

L14 Fiore looks to have hit the wall but is still circulating. Lost mirror on the race track?

L15 Lowndes still leads van Gisbergen, Will Davison, Coulthard, Winterbottom in fifth after overtaking Courtney. Whincup still in 15.

After 16 laps, Lowndes' gap to second is 7.59sec.

After lap 17 – lead is 9.2218sec for Lowndes.

L22 Reynolds passes Rick Kelly for 10. Alex Davison looms closely behind Kelly.

L22 Mostert around Slade for 12th.

It's expected the soft tyre will last around 30 laps. Lowndes told v8supercars.com.au he felt more confident on the soft tyre (than the hard) after Darwin.

L25 and Lowndes' lead is a whopping 15.7675sec lead.

L29 Winterbottom in for soft tyres, he was running in fifth and will rejoin a lap down, behind Lowndes.

L31 Whincup in pitlane from 14th. He'll need to do 39 laps on the soft tyre.

L32 Lowndes has been caught in traffic, behind Blanchard. His lead is 21.2559sec.

L34 Reynolds, Slade, Tander and Ingall in pit lane. Lowndes in as well. Remember, fuel stops at Townsville.

L34 Bright, McLaughlin and D'Alberto also pitting.

L35 Van Gisbergen (the leader), Courtney, Alex Davison and Mostert in. Coulthard inherits the lead from Rick Kelly and Lowndes.

We've reached the halfway point of the race. No Safety Car as yet – though there has been an appearance in 75 percent of races at the circuit.

L36 Coulthard pitted and has a small issue, held up slightly.

L36 Webb, Moffat, Engel pitted. Webb's team put another set of hard tyres on the car.

L38 Webb received a pit lane penalty for pit stop infringement.

Slade's car is parked in the garage. Premat and Rick Kelly pitting. Rick was in the lead.

Under investigation car 97 Van Gisbergen for pit lane infringement. He's just set the fastest lap with a 1min13.9089 on L38.

Car 97 may have come off the jacks – he was filled 8 sec less than what he needed.

He's now serving his pit lane penalty – and will need to go through again for more fuel to finish the race.

Interesting story to play out – Lowndes first, who started on softs; Will Davison second who has completed five laps on softs; Winterbottom third who stopped early for softs and has completed 12 laps on them.

L42 Whincup is 10th after 11 laps on soft tyres. Tander, who was one position ahead of him until the stops, has completed nine laps on softs and is three places behind.

Van Gisbergen is now eighth behind McLaughlin on L44. Pye just in.

Lowndes' gap down to 15.943sec. Will Davison and Winterbottom follow, then the two BJR cars of Fabian Coulthard and Jason Bright.

SVG fastest lap – 1min13.8074 on L45. He's in seventh behind Courtney.

Slade's car has blown a water pipe, after he started in the top 10.

L51 and Lowndes' lead to Will Davison is 9.8340sec.

Neither of the top two have won at this circuit before. It's Lowndes from Davison by 6.1505sec after lap 53. Winterbottom, in third, won here in 2010. Coulthard and Van Gisbergen make up the top five. All cars down to Webb in 23rd are on the hard tyre.

Davison has the gap down to 4.1987sec with 15 laps to go.

Ingall out of the car, 226 is in the garage. Power steering failure for Russell Ingall.

Whincup is up to eighth.

L58 and Davison is right behind Lowndes – 0.5598sec behind. Lowndes' pace on the hard tyre is not great.

Davison passes for the lead.

L61 Winterbottom through on Lowndes for second. FPR 1-2 finish?

In current positions, Coulthard will jump to fourth in the Championship, ahead of Van Gisbergen. He had taken his additional stop for fuel and is now in 18th.

L66 D'Alberto in pitlane on the jacks.

L66 Coulthard into position three, past Lowndes.

Can Bright also get past Lowndes? His car has a broken header but still on the pace.

L67 Lowndes wide at six – out of grip?

Final lap... Will Davison wins, followed by Winterbottom and Coulthard. Lowndes hangs on to fourth, with Bright behind.

Rest of the top 10 are Courtney, Whincup, Tander, Alex Davison and Reynolds. McLaughlin, who started in seventh, finishes in 14th.

Will Davison hit the fence doing his victory burnout! Damage to the left rear quarter, some work for the team tonight!
