Tickford tangle as Waters gets tagged

Jack Le Brocq says he felt “horrible” over the intra-team Sydney incident which saw Cameron Waters turned into the barriers in Race 26.

Tickford Racing teammates Waters and Le Brocq were both in position for top 10 finishes after a Safety Car restart in Saturday’s race, which was won by Anton De Pasquale.

Contact with Todd Hazelwood compromised Waters at Turn 8, before the Monster Mustang was turned by Le Brocq at the exit of the corner.

Waters managed to return his damaged car to the garage, and was classified 22nd.

Le Brocq was handed a drive-through penalty over the incident and finished 20th.

Courtney's 180kph spin and recovery

"I’m really sorry to Cam and the team, I feel horrible about it,” Le Brocq said.

"Obviously the Safety Car packed everyone up and we had a tyre advantage on a lot of cars ahead of us, so I was pushing really hard to gain ground.

"Coming out of the corner I guess I didn’t expect to have that much of a run on Cam and I didn’t realise he had a car inside of him either, before I knew it was too late and I was turning him.

"It sucks. Obviously we’ve had a challenging year in the Car 5 camp but we’ve been getting more and more competitive the last couple rounds and really had a shot at a strong result today, I’m just gutted it ended up the way it did.

"Hopefully we can redeem ourselves tomorrow with some better results.”

Edwards blames Hazelwood for Waters crash

The race started in high drama for Tickford, with James Courtney turned around on the opening lap.

Courtney, who scored a podium last weekend, crawled to 21st.

Waters, however, suffered the biggest blow; he is now just 66 points ahead of De Pasquale in the standings.

"Obviously it was a really frustrating end for us today,” Waters said.

"We stopped pretty early so the Safety Car obviously wasn’t what we wanted, it was going to be a tough slog to the end anyway but then I got tangled with Jack and ended up in the fence.

"I had no idea what happened, but looking at the replay it looks pretty ugly.

"We spoke after and he apologised, he obviously didn’t mean it but it ruined both our races, so it’s very disappointing.

"Huge credit to the team for fixing up the car and getting me back out there, every point counts so we’ll keep at it."

Cars will return to the track on Sunday for consecutive qualifying sessions from 11:45am AEDT.

Race 27 will commence at 1:30pm, followed by Race 28 at 4:45pm.
