Holden's V8 Supercars series leader Jamie Whincup has maintained his momentum by claiming ARMOR ALL Pole Position for the Coates Hire Ipwsich 360's second race.
But Ford turned the tables in Sunday's second qualifying session, clinching the top three times.
In race two qualifying, defending Champion Whincup briefly held the new Queensland Raceway qualifying record of one minute, 9.07 seconds to top the timesheets ahead of Kiwi young gun Scott McLaughlin (1min09.31) and fellow Holden driver James Courtney (1min09.33).
Four-time V8 Champion Whincup eclipsed the previous qualifying lap record of nearest Championship rival and Red Bull Racing Australia teammate Craig Lowndes (1min09.22) set last year.
Lowndes was 13th fastest in qualifying but will start race two at 15th after copping a penalty of two grid places for making contact with Ford's Mark Winterbottom early in Saturday's sprint race.
Whincup claimed his first victory in Ipswich in four years on Saturday, bouncing back from his worst event to date at the last start at the Sucrogen Townsville 400 where he bombed at qualifying and missed the podium entirely for both races.
Race three qualifying was held just 15 minutes after the race two session and the results could not have been more different.
Ford Championship threat Will Davison grabbed his first pole position of the year by eclipsing Whincup's short-lived qualifying lap record (1min09.05) to finish ahead of rising star Chaz Mostert (1min09.10) and David Reynolds (1min09.13).
Whincup was ninth fastest and Lowndes 10th quickest.
Race two will start at 1.45pm AEST and race three from 4.20pm AEST.
Both are 100km events.
