The 2022 Repco Supercars Championship will feature several new driver line-ups.

There are some intriguing new combinations, with champions joined by young guns.

It starts right at the top, with Red Bull Ampol Racing featuring its first line-up change since 2016.

Top five contenders for the 2022 championship

Walkinshaw Andretti United has also recruited one of the best racers on the grid, further enhancing its teams’ championship hopes.

It will all start in dual 300km races at Sydney Motorsport Park this weekend. Purchase your tickets here.

Supercars.com looks at five head-to-head teammate battles to keep an eye on in 2021.

Red Bull Ampol Racing: Broc Feeney vs Shane van Gisbergen

History of famous #88 not lost on 'excited' Feeney

The master and the apprentice. Feeney joins champion van Gisbergen, having replaced the retired Jamie Whincup.

Van Gisbergen is a raging favourite to defend his title, although Feeney arrives with a Super2 crown of his own.

How Feeney performs in his rookie season will be crucial to the team’s hopes, with Whincup providing a strong foil for SVG in 2021.

The team has backed Feeney, even if his recent test day at Queensland Raceway left him scrounging to get comfortable.

Racing in Whincup’s famous #88 won’t overawe Feeney, who will turn 20 in October.

Shell V-Power Racing Team: Anton De Pasquale vs Will Davison

It was lopsided, but Davison finished higher in 2021

Year one of the De Pasquale-Davison partnership featured six wins and 13 ARMOR ALL Pole Positions.

However, it was lopsided; De Pasquale won all six races and scored 11 poles. Davison, however, finished fourth to De Pasquale’s sixth overall.

Starting at SMSP should, on paper, have De Pasquale licking his lips. However, in typical phlegmatic De Pasquale style, he has given nothing away.

Conversely, Davison came out swinging, saying he will "attack more" as he aims to snap a winless drought stretching back to October 2016.

The cars will be fast; but if they find themselves in front of the Bulls, it will be fascinating how the team manages the on-track relationship.

Walkinshaw Andretti United: Chaz Mostert vs Nick Percat

Mostert sounded the siren with his dominant Bathurst win last year

WAU has made the biggest moves, first recruiting Percat from Brad Jones Racing before clinching Fabian Coulthard as a co-driver.

Mostert has pledged to “piss off” his rivals as he chases a maiden title. Percat, meanwhile, was beaming after his first WAU laps in testing.

Critical to WAU’s chances in 2022 will be car performance. Mostert finished third overall last year, but went missing at times.

The team has two Bathurst winners in its stable, so anything less than top fives would be disappointing.

Like DJR, if both cars are at the front, WAU could be in for a bumpy season with two genuine aces on their books.

Boost Mobile Racing powered by Erebus: Will Brown vs Brodie Kostecki

Driver profile: Who is Will Brown?

Brown and Kostecki entered 2021 as rookies, and left it as serious silverware contenders.

The team turned a big corner in Sydney, Brown winning his first race and Kostecki a feature in the top five.

Boost Mobile is backing both cars in 2022, so the drivers will be under the microscope to return Erebus to the top.

If the team is at the top more often this season, its two young charges may be forced to get their elbows out.

Kostecki proved last season, more often than not, that he isn’t afraid to race hard. Wins are his motivation, and a top five Brown’s.

Penrite Racing: Lee Holdsworth vs David Reynolds

Over 800 races between these two

The Groves have brought together two Bathurst winners in the most experienced line-up on the grid.

Reynolds hasn’t won since 2018, and encountered a topsy-turvy 2021.

Holdsworth returns after a year on the sidelines, but won the Great Race no more than three months ago.

Last year was a consolidation year for the Groves; in 2022, with such talent on their books, wins will surely be the aim.

If the Penrite Fords are fast, the two veterans won’t lack any firepower.

This weekend's Beaurepaires Sydney SuperNight will open the 2022 Repco Supercars Championship.
