Anton De Pasquale recovered from a frustrating Saturday to continue his winning run at Sydney Motorsport Park.
De Pasquale helped himself to a third win in five starts at the Eastern Creek venue, having won Races 20 and 22 last weekend.
The Shell V-Power Racing Team driver claimed his fourth win of 2021, and fifth career win.
De Pasquale beats SVG in Race 24, Whincup 25th
De Pasquale drew level with John Bowe with three wins at SMSP.
Only Mark Skaife (10), Marcos Ambrose (seven), Glenn Seton (six), Craig Lowndes and Shane van Gisbergen (five), and Jamie Whincup and Scott McLaughlin (four) have more SMSP wins.
Van Gisbergen finished a lonely second, but helped himself to a new personal best.
The race marked van Gisbergen's 19th podium of the season, with the Kiwi beating his 2016 title-winning haul of 18 podiums.
His series lead is now a season-high 418 points over Red Bull Ampol Racing teammate Jamie Whincup, who was consigned to 25th following a puncture.
It was Whincup's worst classified finish since he crossed the line 25th in the Tasmania opener in 2019.
James Courtney finished third, helping himself to a 61st career podium, second for Tickford Racing and first since Darwin 2020.
Ahead of Courtney is Chaz Mostert (65 podiums), Dick Johnson (65) and Will Davison (64).
It was Penrith-born Courtney's first podium at SMSP since the Saturday in 2016.
The floodlit Race 25 will commence at 7:30pm AEDT.
