The session was punctuated by several moments at Turn 1; Chaz Mostert, who ended up 13th, survived two minor offs.

In the opening minutes, Mostert understeered off at Turn 1 and was followed in sympathy by De Pasquale seconds later.

De Pasquale recovered to go purple in the first and third sectors and rose to the top with a 1:30.366s.

Cloud cover enveloped the circuit with 18 minutes to go, and Jamie Whincup vaulted to the top with a 1:20.319s.

Mostert encountered more trouble at Turn 1, but slotted into fourth with a 1:30.520s before the final runs.

Kostecki, Brown, Jack Le Brocq and Scott Pye all improved, but van Gisbergen's time remained firm at the top.

It was until De Pasquale, who topped Practice 1, lowered the series leader's benchmark by 0.165s with a 1:29.688s.

Will Davison jumped to sixth, leaving Whincup seventh all told. 14 drivers were within a second of De Pasquale's time.
