Putting it in the window: Qualifying 29 Highlights - Beaurepaires Sydney SuperNight

Anton De Pasquale has gapped the field in ARMOR ALL Qualifying ahead of Saturday afternoon's Top Ten Shootout.

De Pasquale will be last driver out in the afternoon one-lap dash, which will set the grid for Saturday night’s 64-lap Race 29.

De Pasquale, who paced the Beaurepaires Sydney SuperNight practice sessions, proved half a second quicker than Shane van Gisbergen.

Jamie Whincup made it a Red Bull Ampol Racing two-three, with Will Davison 0.567s behind his teammate.

"It hooked up pretty good on that last set," De Pasquale said.

"Tyre grip's up and you feed it more gas, roll a bit of speed and the time comes.

"It looks like it could rain [for the shootout], so it'll be a lottery if it does."

The fourth Sydney event will feature seven sets of Hards and two Super Soft sets. The Super Soft tyres cannot be used in any other session other than the two races.

With inclement weather hovering around Sydney Motorsport Park, the session was declared wet.

The two Shell V-Power Racing Team Mustangs caught themselves in traffic on their first flying lap, with Cameron Waters shooting to P1 on a 1:30.473s.

De Pasquale, who set an unrepresentative 1:34.911s, returned serve on his next lap with a 1:29.756s.

Davison slotted into second, albeit 0.394s behind De Pasquale. Van Gisbergen went third, 0.572s from the #11 Shell Ford.

Brodie Kostecki, who was the only driver to leave pit lane on wet tyres when the session went green, went purple in the first sector.

With fresh Hard tyres on the #99 Boost Mobile Erebus Commodore, Kostecki slotted into second on a 1:30.036s.

Other notables to jump up the time sheets after the opening runs were Zane Goddard and Todd Hazelwood, who were fifth and seventh before the final runs.

With the balance of the field in pit lane with four minutes remaining, Scott Pye used the changed conditions to his advantage to jump to third on a 1:30.103s.

Davison and van Gisbergen vaulted to third and second, with Whincup demoting Davison to fourth.

Seconds later, De Pasquale clocked a 1:29.243s to put 0.501s on closest rival van Gisbergen.

Kostecki and Pye dropped to fifth and seventh respectively by session’s end, with Nick Percat moving into sixth.

Mostert deflated after missing shootout

Jack Le Brocq, Hazelwood and Waters rounded out the top 10, with Waters denying Tim Slade a shootout berth by just 0.029s.

The top 10 runners were covered by 0.983s.

The biggest loser was Erebus rookie Brown, who was only 16th, one position behind Goddard.

Chaz Mostert also missed the shootout, with the Walkinshaw Andretti United driver missing out on the one-lap dash by just 0.063s.

The returning David Reynolds was 17th, with James Courtney a lowly 23rd.
