Shell V-Power Racing Team Fords sandwiched Chaz Mostert in second.

Mostert and Anton De Pasquale were 0.21s and 0.24s behind Davison respectively.

Points leader Shane van Gisbergen set the early pace on a 1:08.398s.

Scott Pye lowered the benchmark to a 1:08.365s, with teammate Mark Winterbottom slotting into third.

Van Gisbergen returned to the top on a 1:08.246s, before Davison began to light up the timesheets.

Davison and van Gisbergen traded quick times, the latter edging ahead by 0.0003s.

In the closing minutes, Davison became the first driver to dip into the 1:07s.

He proved the only driver into the 1:07s, with Mostert and De Pasquale within 0.25s.

Van Gisbergen ended up fifth behind Winterbottom, with Brodie Kostecki sixth.

David Reynolds, Will Brown, Macauley Jones and Chris Pither rounded out the top 10.

There were no casualties in the session, although Penrite Racing completed early repairs for Lee Holdsworth.

Holdsworth, who is celebrating 500 races, was forced into the lane with a smoky cabin.

The team had to put out a small oil fire before Holdsworth returned to the track.

Holdsworth ended up 18th of the 25 runners, some 0.7s off Davison's pace.

Co-drivers will take to the cars for the Additional Driver session at 3:30pm local time.

Main game drivers will return to the track on Saturday at 10:20am.
