Shane van Gisbergen improved on his Practice 1 showing with the third fastest time.

Matt Stone Racing teammates Jack Le Brocq and Todd Hazelwood filled out the top five.

"We made good improvement from session one to session two," Davison said.

"It's tight. I enjoyed that lap, it was good, there's nothing between us.

"But we're working together... even looking at the micros, there's a lot of T8 customer cars in there.

"It's still really nice, but we know the story of the last few events."

Le Brocq led the early running with a 54.410s ahead of De Pasquale and Courtney.

Davison shot to the top on a 54.207s before van Gisbergen went quicker on a 54.049s.

With seven minutes remaining, Davison clocked his definitive time; a minute later, De Pasquale did the same.

Van Gisbergen loomed to go quickest of all before he triggered a kerb strike at Turn 7.

Mark Winterbottom, who has commenced his 254th career round, was sixth on the time sheets.

Winterbottom moves past Russell Ingall on the all-time round starts list.

David Reynolds, Macauley Jones, Chris Pither and James Courtney rounded out the top 10.

Courtney was forced to swerve towards the infield on the run to Turn 7 alongside Chaz Mostert.

It proved the flashpoint in an otherwise incident-free session; Mostert ended up 19th.

Cars will return to the track for three-part ARMOR ALL Qualifying at 2:40pm local time.
