The 23-year-old’s win came in his 38th career start, with Brown helping Erebus Motorsport to its first victory since Darwin 2020.

Brown became the 82nd different driver to win an ATCC/Supercars race, and seventh different winner in 2021.

He also became the second first-time winner of 2021 following Andre Heimgartner, who won Race 9 at the OTR SuperSprint in May.

Incredible run to the line: Race 28 highlights

Brown made his championship debut as an Erebus co-driver in 2018, but the 2021 is his first as a full-time driver.

As such, he became the first full-time rookie to win a race since Scott McLaughlin won on home soil at Pukekohe in 2013.

It was Erebus' eighth Supercars race win, and first since Anton De Pasquale won at Hidden Valley last August.

Brown is fourth overall in the fight for the Beaurepaires Sydney Cup, 103 points adrift of van Gisbergen.

De Pasquale, who won Races 26 and 27, topped the weekend points total with 266, with van Gisbergen and Whincup level on 264. Brown was fourth on 246.

Whincup shaved van Gisbergen's series lead to 337 points, and defeated his teammate for the second time in as many starts.
