For a team as decorated as Walkinshaw Andretti United, 12 years without a driver in the top three overall is a shock.

Chaz Mostert's Repco Bathurst 1000 win helped him to third in the 2021 Repco Supercars Championship standings.

Mostert entered the season finale at Mount Panorama fourth behind Shell V-Power Racing Team driver Will Davison.

Davison finished 10th, allowing Mostert to jump him into third in the points behind Red Bull Ampol Racing teammates Shane van Gisbergen and Jamie Whincup.

Mostert improved on his career best finish of fifth, which he achieved in 2017, 2019 and 2020, the latter in his first season with WAU.

It was Davison, back in 2009 along with then teammate Garth Tander, who previously helped a Walkinshaw car to the top three overall.

Davison and Tander made it a Holden Racing Team two-three in the points behind champion Whincup.

Davison and Tander combined to win the Phillip Island and Bathurst enduros, and helped HRT score what remains its last teams' championship title.

Between 2010 and 2020, the best result for a Walkinshaw car in the drivers' standings was fifth; Tander in 2010 and 2011, and Mostert in 2020. Mostert's 2020 season was the first in eight years a driver finished in the top five without winning a race.

HRT won six drivers' titles between 1996 and 2002 - three each for Craig Lowndes and Mark Skaife - and four teams' titles between 1999 and 2002.

HRT only beat Triple Eight Race Engineering to the 2009 teams' crown by 73 points. It remains the team's most recent championship.

Only Dick Johnson Racing (10 drivers' titles) and Triple Eight (nine) have won more drivers' championships than WAU.

That will be the goal in 2022 for Mostert, who ended season 2021 with arguably the most dominant performance of the season.

Mostert and Lee Holdsworth combined to win the Great Race from pole position.

Mostert broke the practice/qualifying lap record, and also set nine of the 10 top fastest race laps on Sunday.

The 13-event 2022 Repco Supercars Championship will commence in Newcastle next year. Tickets for the event are on sale now.

The 13-round draft calendar was released during the Repco Bathurst 1000 weekend.
