Triple Eight star Broc Feeney holds 183-point lead through six rounds
Since 1999, leader after Round 6 became champion 17 times in 26 seasons
Feeney could clinch Repco Sprint Cup, and Finals berth, in Townsville
Broc Feeney has quickly emerged as the driver to beat in 2025, with the Triple Eight Race Engineering building a 183-point lead through six rounds.
Everything changes this year with the introduction of the Finals, with points reset at the final three rounds of the season in an elimination-style format.
Make no mistake, Feeney is showing the kind of form that has delivered championships many times over, and despite the looming threat of it falling apart in the Finals, he has the speed to get the job done.
In every case, drivers in the championship picture well and truly will have made their mark by Round 6, which since the championship expanded in 1999, represents the halfway mark of the season.
Putting pressure on Feeney's title hopes in 2025, in 26 seasons since 1999, leaders after Round 6 went on to win the championship 17 times, including six of the last seven.

In 17 seasons in the 300-point era, drivers leading after Round 6 have failed to win the championship just five times: Mark Winterbottom (2008, 2014), Jamie Whincup (2016), Fabian Coulthard (2017) and Will Brown (2023).
Feeney blew the Sprint Cup apart in Darwin, winning all three races as his closest rivals floundered. Feeney put 111 points on teammate Will Brown alone, with Cam Waters losing 167 points in a single weekend relative to Feeney after losing a wheel on Sunday.
Through it all, Feeney wants to clinch the Repco Sprint Cup, which earns the winner a ticket into the Finals. There's also an outside chance Feeney could seal a Finals berth on points, should he leave Townsville 915 points clear of 10th place.
“I want the 25 extra playoff points at the end of the Sprint Cup. That’s what I’m going for now," Feeney said.
"I’m not going to go championship racing; I’m going out there to try and win three more races in Townsville. But I want to try and wrap up that Sprint Cup in Ipswich in a month and get those extra playoff points.
“Up until Ipswich, we haven’t really changed how we think about this championship, but I suppose now everyone’s starting to talk about the Finals series, and it is becoming more of a real thing. So, for me, it’s not going to change how I approach the next couple of rounds. I want to keep winning.
"You’re going to have to keep winning all year. We’ll just try and keep the momentum rolling that we’ve got at the moment, and hopefully that brings some race wins in Townsville."
Feeney will resume his 2025 campaign at the NTI Townsville 500 on July 11-13. Supercars drivers will contest races on all three days of the event. Tickets for the NTI Townsville 500 are on sale now. International viewers can watch the action on SuperView.
