A promising talent rising through the ranks, Matt Hillyer completes double duties of a different kind.

A double champion in Formula Ford, the Melburnian has become a part of the Walkinshaw family, becoming a mechanic with the team after graduating from the Kangan Institute.

However, when he's not throwing spanners, Hillyer is carving out a reputation as a talent to watch over coming years.

Hillyer is a dual Formula Ford champion, winning the Victorian state title in 2022 before dominating the national series the following year, winning 13 races in 21 starts.

Signed to the Walkinshaw Foundation Academy in 2023, he finished fifth in the Toyota Scholarship Series, alongside his Formula Ford duties, and graduated to the GR Cup in 2024.

Hillyer went on a streak of six race wins on the bounce, and although a season-ending crash at Bathurst ended his title hopes, he was promoted to the squad's Super2 program last year.

With Walkinshaw closing their Super2 program to pool resources into their all-new Toyota Supercars program, Hillyer joins Brad Jones Racing for his second Super2 season.
