The V8 Supercars Commission has mandated a minimum tyre pressure for all Championship teams.

After monitoring tyre pressures applied by teams prior to race starts and tyre changes in recent months, the Commission has applied the minimum based on recommendations by tyre supplier Dunlop.

After a lengthy investigation last year into several punctures in New Zealand and at Queensland Raceway, Dunlop made the initial recommendation on safety grounds.

The V8 Supercars Commission, on which the race teams have a majority vote, considered the safety of drivers as the priority to avoid any potential for serious injury.

The mandated pressure of 17psi will apply for all Championship events.

In line with the process of weighing vehicles the V8 Supercars technical department has the ability to check tyre pressures without notice.

These checks may occur prior to practice, qualifying and races. In 2013 Formula One implemented a minimum tyre pressure while NASCAR also apply a minimum in certain conditions.

A list of penalties will be ratified by the Commission prior to the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 early next month, October 9-12 at Mount Panorama.
