The date has been set for the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship’s first points paying event at Albert Park.

Ratification of the 2018 Formula 1 calendar by the FIA’s World Motor Sport Council has confirmed that Albert Park will retain its March 22-25 slot.

As recently announced, Supercars has completed a deal with F1 management for its Albert Park races to count for points from next season.

A format is yet to be confirmed, although the return of pitstop races on Friday and Saturday before a pre-grand prix sprint on Sunday has been mooted as a likely outcome.

Albert Park is expected to retain its position as the second Supercars event of the season following the Adelaide 500.

Supercars plans to have its full calendar finalised by September, with the new circuit in Tailem Bend, South Australia, and an Asian event both touted as possible additions.
