A youngster that made a decent impact on his debut in the Dunlop Series in 2007, Russell is the son of former V8 Supercar privateer racer Wayne Russell.
Russell Jnr first appeared on the national racing scene in the Australian Production Car Championship in a Honda S2000, following his father into the production based category. But after purchasing an older model Commodore, Russell moved into V8 Supercars in 2007 and headed into 2008 with the same car, which was updated to VZ specification.
Running on a shoe-string budget, Russell was able to show some good speed over the course of the season and signed with Race Image for 2009 to drive an ex-Dick Johnson Racing Falcon.
The relationship fell apart after two rounds before Russell and his father secured an ex-Brad Jones Racing Falcon late in the season to use at Bathurst and Sydney before expanding to two cars in 2010 with younger brother Aaren as teammate.
The brothers have run together for the last two years before the small family team updated to ex-Stone Brothers FG Falcons for the 2013 Dunlop Series.
