Chaz Mostert said there was “no hiding” from his poor Saturday showing at the NTI Townsville 500.

Mostert ceded more ground to series leader and Race 15 winner Shane van Gisbergen with a low-profile run to 14th.

It came after Mostert qualified 17th for the 88-lapper, marking his worst qualifying result of the season.

Mostert moved forward in the opening laps, but fell through the pack late in each stint as he struggled for balance.

“Today was tough, no hiding from that,” said Mostert, who is now 317 points down on van Gisbergen.

“Not the results we wanted to achieve heading in that’s for sure.

“We haven’t had many days like that this year, or since I’ve been here.

“We will put our heads together tonight, have a look at what went wrong, and fix what we need to fix overnight."

It marked Mostert’s lowest finish in 2021 barring DNFs or car troubles of the like he suffered at Sandown and Tailem Bend.

"I’ve got a huge amount of belief in the guys and girls here,” he continued.

“We’ve got another opportunity tomorrow, which I’m looking forward to already to get back up the pointy end of the field."

Cars will roll out for Race 16 ARMOR ALL Qualifying at 10:10am AEST.
