The 2015 season provides a year of opportunities for David Reynolds after a positive end to 2014.

A podium finish at Sydney Olympic Park and front-of-field performances at the Gold Coast and Phillip Island put the momentum well and truly in the likeable larrikin's hands.

As he enters his fourth season with Prodrive Racing, consistency will be key for Reynolds, after a lacklustre 2014 season.

Reynolds won multiple Australian titles on his way to earning a seat in the V8 Supercars Championship, including the national Formula Ford Championship in 2004 and the 2007 Porsche Carrera Cup crown.

He made his V8 Supercars debut in the same year as an endurance driver at Sandown and Bathurst, before driving in the Dunlop Series the following year.

Fourth place in the development category led to a full-time drive in V8 Supercars in 2009 and while he was the highest-placed rookie that year, there was no full-time drive for 2010, necessitating a move back into enduro driver mode.

He moved back to the main series for 2011 and a number of attention-grabbing performances led to team owner Rod Nash securing his services.

Renowned as a bit of a joker, Reynolds is also one of the fittest drivers on the grid and a keen cyclist.

The form man of the last eight years in the V8 Supercars Championship, reigning champion Jamie Whincup has amazingly not finished out of the top two in the championship in that period.

Demon fast in karting, Whincup moved to Formula Ford in 2000 and was crowned Australian champion in 2002.

Spotted by Garry Rogers, he made his V8 Supercar debut at the Queensland 500 in 2002 before graduating to a fulltime position with the team a year later.

2003 proved to be difficult and Whincup found himself dumped come the end of the season, only able to scrape together an endurance seat in 2004.

Given a lifeline by Tasman Motorsport in 2005, Whincup responded in style, partnering the late Jason Richards to podium results at Sandown and Bathurst which paved the way to joining Triple Eight Race Engineering for 2006.

Winning in style on debut in Adelaide, Whincup would win Bathurst in partnership with Craig Lowndes.

He returned in 2007 to challenge for the title, winning four rounds on his way to becoming runner-up to Garth Tander by a mere two points.

In 2008 he would finish the job, winning six rounds, and backed it up in 2009, winning 11 races and sealing back-to-back titles.

After falling short in 2010, the Triple Eight ace struck back with force in 2011, making him just the second man after Norm Beechey to have won the championship in both a Ford and a Holden.

He then backed that up with 12 more race wins in 2012 to seal his fourth title. His record-equaling fifth championship win in 2013 cemented his place in the history books as he overcame a testing year in the all-new Car of the Future.

Last season though was one of the champion’s toughest as he overcome a mid-season slump with a new engineer to claim a record-breaking sixth title win at Phillip Island with one event to spare.

TEKNO Autosports’ Shane Van Gisbergen will be keen to build on the momentum that saw him finish last season as championship runner-up.

The talented New Zealander had his best season to-date in 2014, with eight wins (three at the non-championship Australian Grand Prix), and three pole positions – marking him out as a future champion with standout performances all year.

Van Gisbergen burst onto the V8 Supercars scene with Team Kiwi Racing in the middle of 2007. During a torrentially wet weekend of racing at Oran Park, Van Gisbergen finished 13th in one of the races and set the third-fastest lap in another.

Stone Brothers Racing became Van Gisbergen’s home from 2008 through to the end of 2012. In the early stages of his career, he demonstrated brilliant car control – especially in the wet weather.

As the New Zealander matured, his performances on-track became far more consistent – and he teetered on the brink of victory for a few seasons. Van Gisbergen broke through for his maiden win in the rain on New Zealand’s Hamilton Street circuit in 2011.

While Van Gisbergen scored more top-10 results in 2012, he was ready for new pastures in 2013 and switched to the TEKNO Autosports Holden outfit.

The change in scenery reinvigorated Van Gisbergen’s enthusiasm and he won on debut with his new team at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide, and took Commodore’s historic 400th all-time race win in the final race of the year at the Sydney 500.

Having stepped up from the Dunlop Series as the reigning Champion, McLaughlin made his debut in the 2013 V8 Supercar Championship. He made an impact immediately, qualifying in the ARMOR ALL Top 10 Shootout for his first official full-time race at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide.

McLaughlin went onto to take two Championship races wins and finished the 2013 season 10th in the Championship, earning him the the Mike Kable Young Gun Award, recognising rookie of the year.

In 2014 McLaughlin had the opportunity to develop and race a new car, with Valvoline Racing GRM making the switch from Holden to Volvo and debuting the Volvo Polestar S60s at the first round in Adelaide.

It proved to be a very successful year for GRM, Volvo Polestar Racing and Scott, winning 5 races, making 10 podiums and claiming 10 ‘Pole’ positions ending the year 5th in the Championship Standings and being awarded the coveted Barry Sheene Medal.

Scott and Volvo have now proved that the Volvo will be a championship threat in 2015.

Prodrive Racing Australia’s Cameron Waters is eager to continue the momentum that saw him finish runner-up in the V8 Supercars Dunlop Series in 2014.

The Mildura-native kicked off his racing career in go-karts, collecting multiple national and state championships before graduating to Formual Vee in 2009.

The following year he moved on to the Australian Formula Ford Championship, finishing sixth in the championship standings while being awarded the Rookie of the Year title.

That same year Waters debuted in the Dunlop Series at Sandown with Kelly Racing after becoming the inaugural winner of the Shannons Supercar Showdown TV series. The show awarded Waters with a drive in the Bathurst 1000 alongside Grant Denyer, which saw Waters become the youngest ever driver to compete in the legendary race.

While the pair failed to finish the race after Waters crashed at Forrests Elbow, he returned to the mountain the following year to drive with Jesse Dixon – winner of the 2012 Shannons Supercar Showdown. Waters and Dixon were the youngest driver combination to ever compete in the race, finishing in 20th position.

Alongside his Bathurst 1000 duties in 2012, Waters also won the Australian Formula Ford Championship and competed in the Dunlop Series with Dreamtime Racing, before the squad withdrew from the category.

He returned to the Dunlop Series with Minda Motorsport in 2013 – finishing tenth in the series – before making the successful move to Prodrive Racing Australia in 2014.

In 2015, Waters and his Prodrive Racing Australia squad are vying for the title, while the 20-year-old will partner with reigning Bathurst champ Chaz Mostert in the PIRTEK Enduro Cup.

Rookie Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 winner Nick Percat joins Lucas Dumbrell Motorsport for his second full-time V8 Supercars season in 2015.

Signing with Walkinshaw Racing in 2007, Percat competed in Formula Ford, winning the national title in 2009 and breaking Steven Richards’ record for most race wins.

He then progressed to the V8 Supercars Development Series in 2010 and finished fourth in the standings, earning him an endurance drive alongside Garth Tander in 2011.

The duo claimed victory at the Bathurst 1000, Percat becoming the first rookie winner in 30 years. He remained part of HRT’s endurance lineup while he continued to race full-time in the Dunlop Series until the end of 2012.

In 2013, Percat stepped into the Porsche Carrera Cup and placed second, stacking up a record amount of pole positions and fastest laps. He then substituted for the injured James Courtney in the HRT Commodore at the season-ending Sydney 500 before receiving the full-time call-up in 2014.

Percat’s debut season recorded a 2nd at Eastern Creek and 3rd at the iconic Bathurst 1000.  He rounded out the year 12th in the Championship, enlisting him as the highest placed rookie.

2010 V8 Supercars Champion James Courtney returns for his fifth year with the Holden Racing Team, and is set to build on the momentum of 2014.

Courtney’s list of achievements before joining V8 Supercars is impressive, with two world karting championships, British and European Formula Ford titles, and an F1 testing role with Jaguar Racing.

His versatility caught the attention of the Holden Racing Team, which signed him as an endurance driver alongside veteran Jim Richards in 2005.

He secured a full-time drive with Stone Brothers Racing the following year, when he finished on the podium at Bathurst and secured the Mike Kable Rookie of the Year award with his 11th place championship result.

Courtney took his maiden victory with SBR at Queensland Raceway in 2008, but the following year moved to Dick Johnson Racing – where he won the championship in 2010. He was also awarded V8 Supercar’s best and fairest, the Barry Sheene Medal.

In 2011, Courtney returned to Holden’s factory team as the reigning champion, and won in Abu Dhabi.

Courtney made the best of 2012 with two podiums in Sydney and a top-10 finish in the rankings, before returning to the front the following year in the new generation VF Commodore.

However, Courtney’s year in 2013 was marred by his accident at Phillip Island that ruled him out of the final round. He returned to racing last year in stunning style, winning the Clipsal 500 – and in Ipswich as well.

Craig Lowndes first appeared on the Australian touring car radar back in 1994 when he debuted for the Holden Racing Team in the Sandown 500, stunning everyone a few weeks later by finishing second at Bathurst in partnership with Brad Jones.

After attempting to put together an open-wheeler deal overseas, Lowndes went to HRT for 1996 and was an instant hit, clinching the championship, as well as both Sandown and Bathurst.

A tough stint in International Formula 3000 in 1997 saw Lowndes return home and re-join HRT full-time until the end of 2000, claiming two more championships.

One of the biggest stories in V8 Supercar history was Lowndes’ move to Ford for 2001 but a lack of success with firstly the Gibson/00 team and then Ford Performance Racing prompted a move to Triple Eight and he has never looked back.

In 2010 he moved back into a Holden as his team made the switch from Ford and reunited with former HRT teammate Mark Skaife to win the endurance double at Phillip Island and Bathurst.

The duo recombined in 2011 and again won at Phillip Island and finished a narrow second at Bathurst, as Lowndes finished runner-up to teammate Jamie Whincup in the championship.

The following year saw him claim another Sandown 500 win partnered by Warren Luff, which helped him on his way to the runner-up position in the championship again.

Lowndes came within touching distance of the title in 2013 when the hunt for the championship crown came down to the last race of the season, but he was to finish second for the third consecutive year, making Triple Eight Race Engineering the only team to have ever finished 1-2 in the championship three years in a row.

After a strong start to the 2014 season, Lowndes suffered several misfortunes in the second half of the year, which dented his championship campaign, leaving him fourth at the end of the year.

Three-time Bathurst 1000 winner and 2007 V8 Supercars Champion Garth Tander starts his 18th consecutive year with Holden in 2015; his sights locked on the front of the field.

Revered by drivers, fans and media alike for his professionalism and ongoing commitment, Tander has been part of the Holden official factory team line-up since 2008 – where he has notched up a staggering 23 championship and six non-championship race wins.

Tander’s time at HRT has seen him claim a Clipsal 500 Adelaide crown, back-to-back Phillip Island 500s, along with multiple successes in Australia’s Great Race, the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 – including the iconic team’s 200th all-time race win alongside rookie Nick Percat in 2011.

Tander is fourth on the all-time race winners’ list behind Craig Lowndes, Mark Skaife and Jamie Whincup. His 2014 Townsville victory, leading home teammate James Courtney for a famous back-to-back one-two result, took his career total to 53 championship wins.

As one of the most experienced drivers in the field, Tander’s knowledge of the sport and technical knowledge sees him remain an integral part of HRT’s ongoing VF Commodore development.
