Winton formats, supports confirmed

Three Virgin Australia Supercars Championships races and three support categories will feature in 16 hours of broadcast action at next month’s Truck Assist Winton SuperSprint.

The on-track activities will be headlined by three 35-lap Supercars races at the northern Victoria circuit.

Support categories were also confirmed for the two-day TV-only meet from 18-19 July: Dunlop Super2 and Super3 Series (combined), Porsche Carrera Cup and the Toyota Gazoo Racing Australia 86 Series.

There will be a combined Supercars and Super2 rookie session on Saturday morning, followed by the Supercars two practice sessions.

As announced earlier this week, at Winton Supercars teams will have only three sets of hard tyres and two sets of softs at their disposal from opening qualifying onwards which will play a critical role in strategy selection.

Saturday’s ARMOR ALL Qualifying times will decide who takes part in a Top 10 Shootout, which will determine the grid for Saturday’s opening 35-lap race.

On Sunday there will be two qualifying sessions with just a 10-minute gap between both; those sessions will determine the grids for Races 11 and 12, which will run early Sunday afternoon.

Dunlop Super2 combined with Super3 will have one practice, one ARMOR ALL Qualifying and one race on Saturday plus one qualifying and one race on Sunday.

Porsche and Toyota 86 will have three races each at the meet; one on Saturday and two on Sunday.

The event will be broadcast live on Foxtel and streamed on Kayo, with highlights aired on 10.
