Jamie Whincup has topped Qualifying at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000, which begs the question – who will challenge the defending Champion?
The Red Bull Racing Australia driver now has a ticket to the ARMOR ALL Top 10 Shootout tomorrow, when the final grid positions will be confirmed.
Whincup hit the wall earlier in the session, but recovered nicely and will now be the final car to record a lap in the shootout, as they run in reverse order.
Pepsi Max Crew FPR’s Mark Winterbottom followed in second, just 0.055sec behind in his Falcon. In fact, today's top 10 was separated by just 0.59sec.
Jason Bright, James Courtney, Shane van Gisbergen, Craig Lowndes, Will Davison, David Reynolds, Scott McLaughlin and Alex Premat will also appear tomorrow afternoon.
Both Garth Tander and Lee Holdsworth – the highest placed Mercedes-Benz AMG E63 – were pushed out of the 10 late in the session.
Steve Johnson was the only co-driver in the session (16th), and Mattias Ekstrom was chosen to qualify the wildcard XBox entry (18th).
Only 27 cars participated, as Chaz Mostert was involved in a large accident with the #17 Falcon earlier today, and Tim Slade’s #47 is still being repaired after yesterday’s incident.
Both are expected to be on the grid on Sunday, however.
