Tickford Racing star Cam Waters has continued his strong form, this time on dirt with a speedway podium.

Waters, 29, is taking to sprint cars in the off-season ahead of the new Repco Supercars Championship campaign, which begins in February.

The Mildura-born driver recorded his equal-best result at Simpson Speedway overnight in rural Victoria.

Waters finished second in the A-Main on Wednesday night, finished behind winner Tate Frost and third-placed Jake Smith.

The 2015 Super2 champion raced his Chief Racing-prepared V6 sprint car from sixth to second in the first heat, and fourth in the pole shootout.

It came after Waters was fastest in his group with a time of 12.738s, but was relegated to sixth on the grid for the first heat after the top six was reversed.

He earned passage into the gold dash for the A-Main, which was taken out by Frost. Such was the drama, that only eight cars finished.

Elsewhere, current Aussie champion Jock Goodyer won his second straight Speed Week event at Murray Bridge in South Australia.

Waters won three races in the 2023 Supercars season, including two of the last four across the Gold Coast and Adelaide events.

The 11-time Supercars race winner will be partnered by 2020 Super2 champion Thomas Randle in a downsized Tickford effort in 2024.

Waters returns to speedway action on Thursday at Mount Gambier in South Australia.
