Thirty years on the curse of the Greens'-Tuf Falcon has struck again for Dick Johnson, with young gun Chaz Mostert crashing massively in practice this morning at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000.

Back in 1983 Johnson’s original Greens-Tuf Ford Falcon XE was destroyed when the Queensland hero ploughed off the road exiting Forrest’s Elbow during Saturday afternoon’s Top 10 Shootout.

This morning Mostert lost control at Quarry Bend in a DJR Falcon FG painted to celebrate the 30th anniversary and rattled into concrete walls on both sides of the road before coming to a halt with every panel on the car damaged.

The session was stopped and the car transported back to the pits on the back of a flat-bed truck, just as the original Greens'-Tuf was in 1983.

Mostert was transported back to the medical centre and was almost immediately discharged without serious injury.

There had earlier been a red flag for debris on the circuit, and another with eight minutes to go for car #360 with James Moffat behind the wheel – but it was the impact of the Greens'-Tuf Falcon that shocked the session.

Mostert had been running fourth before the accident, 23 minutes into the session and sits eighth in the times from the session.

Red Bull Racing Australia's Jamie Whincup topped the times after the chequered flag, with Jason Bright, Will Davison, Mark Winterbottom and Michael Caruso making the top five, and Fabian van Gisbergen, Mostert, James Courtney and Lee Holdsworth making up the top 10.

Others to note include Scott McLaughlin in 12, Mattias Ekstrom 13, Craig Lowndes 15 and Garth Tander 19.
