Supercars' new windscreen design has been rolled out by Red Bull Ampol Racing at the team's final pre-season Gen3 test.

Last week, Supercars and teams worked together during the all-in Sydney test to amend the windscreen marking designs.

In a bid to improve visibility in the new cars, changes have been mandated to the windscreen design, position and size requirements of the driver name and competition number.

From 2023, the name and number will be located on the top right of the windscreen.

Names were added to windscreens at the beginning of the 2021 season, and were located on the top left.

Red Bull Ampol Racing trialled a number of changes in Sydney; notably, the name on Shane van Gisbergen’s #97 Camaro was shifted towards the centre of the windscreen.

The numbers were also perforated on the windscreen and windows.

Feeney on Monday

The variation to Rule E1. Markings on Cars — VCS was confirmed last Friday, with Triple Eight rolling out the new design on Monday.

Broc Feeney and Jamie Whincup shared the former’s #88 Camaro at Queensland Raceway in what is the first day of the team’s split test.

Van Gisbergen and Richie Stanaway will test the #97 Camaro on Tuesday.

Feeney’s car carried the new design on Monday; the upper front windscreen band remains a maximum 220m high, with the driver’s name and competition number located below.


The driver’s name is 80mm high, and has been reduced from 110mm. The competition number is 150mm high.

The name is located 20mm in from the competition number, which is located 20mm in from the passenger side.

As has been the case since 2017, the championship leader will run dayglo orange numbers.

The changes open up the driver’s vision, with the name and number now on the passenger’s side.

The new changes came after the all-in Sydney test, which precedes this week’s final array of test days for teams.

Monday’s running is Feeney’s last before Newcastle, which the 20-year-old reiterated was going to be a major challenge as drivers and teams grapple with the new cars.

“Last day in the car, so we want to make sure we nail all our plans today,” Feeney told Supercars.com on Monday.

“[Newcastle] is going to be wild, the track’s going to be crazy — taking these new cars there for the first time is going to be pretty hard work.

We’re all looking forward to it — at this point, it’s anyone’s game. I felt like everyone’s itching to go."

The 2023 Repco Supercars Championship will commence at the Thrifty Newcastle 500 on March 10-12.
