Brodie Kostecki and Cameron Hill are the biggest year-on-year winners on the scoreboard through four rounds, as the 2025 Repco Sprint Cup hits the halfway mark.
In the first four rounds, six drivers have won, while 12 have already scored at least one podium finish. it's tighter at the top, with the top four covered by 91 points, compared to 381 points last year.
Kostecki seemed set on making a big gain after missing the first two rounds last season, and despite a poor Tasmania, is still within striking distance of the top four. Hill, meanwhile, has been one of the stories of the season for Matt Stone Racing, winning his first race in Melbourne and claiming three more podiums.
With every story of success comes others of frustration, and some drivers who hit early peaks in 2024 have hit hurdles so far this season. Notably, three drivers sit 13th or lower despite claiming silverware this year.
Heading to the next round in Perth, Supercars.com looks through which drivers have moved up and down year-on-year.
On the up
Given he missed the first two rounds of 2024, Kostecki was destined to make a big gain, and has done so after ending up seventh through the first two rounds.
Cameron Hill (18th to eighth), Ryan Wood (16th to sixth), Thomas Randle (10th to sixth) and Jaxon Evans (20th to 16th) have all marched forward, Matt Payne has broken into the top three, Andre Heimgartner into the top 10, and Broc Feeney into the points lead.
Given Kostecki's big gain seemed a certainty, Hill's 10-position rise is proof the Matt Stone Racing driver is arguably the story of the season so far, courtesy of a maiden win in Melbourne and two additional podiums.
Evans, though, has also been a quiet achiever, just missing out on a hat-trick of podiums at the last round in Tasmania.
In a dip
A fast start to 2024 with Penrite Racing had Richie Stanaway fourth after Round 1, but his drop-off was beginning to hit top gear by Round 4, sitting ninth. He currently sits 18th, just one position better than his final 2024 position.
Nick Percat (sixth to 13th) and Will Davison (seventh to 14th) were podium-finishers to Round 4 in both 2024 and 2025, but have been undone by inconsistency this season. Percat has four top 10 finishes in 12 starts, and three of them have been podiums. Davison has five top 10s, but five results of 17th or worse, including his Tasmania DQ.
Percat has been on quite the rollercoaster; at the nadir of his time with Walkinshaw Andretti United, he was 25th and last after three rounds in 2023. Come 2024, he was sixth, and is now back down in 13th.
Team 18's two drivers have also fallen four positions each, David Reynolds from 13th to 17th, and former DJR driver Anton De Pasquale eighth to 12th. And, despite his race gains, James Courtney is 21st, recording a DNS after his qualifying crash in Melbourne.
Towards the top of the standings, Chaz Mostert (third to fifth) and Will Brown (first to second) are the biggest losers, although Brown is only 33 points behind Feeney.
