Triple Eight reveal first glimpse of in-house engine
5.4L Ford Coyote engine completed run up in Red Bull Ampol Racing Mustang
Long-time engine providers KRE remained loyal to GM, Chevrolet
Triple Eight Race Engineering have hit a major milestone ahead of their first season as Ford's official homologation partner in the Repco Supercars Championship.
The team have completed their first engine run up of a Triple Eight Powertrains-built engine, which has now been installed in one of three brand-new Ford Mustangs the team are building ahead of the DUNLOP Sydney 500.
That includes the team's flagship Red Bull Ampol Racing entries of Broc Feeney and 2024 champion Will Brown, and also a customer chassis for SCT Motorsport and rookie Jackson Walls.
2026 marks a new beginning for Triple Eight's engine program, which has been taken in-house following long-time engine provider KRE Race Engines' decision to stick loyal to General Motors and Chevrolet Racing.
Triple Eight move from Chevrolet's 5.7L single camshaft V8 to Ford's 5.4L quad camshaft Coyote engine for 2026.
The team will shakedown all three cars at Queensland Raceway next week, with former Triple Eight Super2 driver Walls also set to tick off the first of two rookie days for the year.
Triple Eight's return to Ford begins in earnest at the DUNLOP Sydney 500 from February 20-22. Tickets for the event are on sale now.
