The Supercars records at risk in wild 2026 season

The 2026 Repco Supercars Championship is living up to the hype as one of the most unpredictable seasons ever — and we're not even halfway yet.

Season 2026 began with change up and down the grid, with Triple Eight moving to Ford, Walkinshaw TWG Racing and Brad Jones Racing welcoming the new Toyota, and General Motors' hopes largely being placed in Team 18's hands.

Through five rounds, the results suggest we're far from done, even though a clear top three of Broc Feeney, Matt Payne and Brodie Kostecki have emerged atop the standings.

Already, 2026 has produced eight different winners, nine different pole-sitters and 14 different drivers on the podium. With 21 races still to come, 2026 could blast records out of the water.

The record for most different winners in an ATCC/Supercars season stands at 13, shared by the 2000 and 2013 seasons. Only nine seasons in the 66-year history of the championship have produced 10-plus winners, and 2026 is on course to become the 10th.

On the pole position front, six different drivers have claimed the last six poles. The season opened with five in five. Unlike 2025, where Feeney blazed to a record 19 poles, no driver has been able to stamp their authority on qualifying in 2026.

In fact, 12 different drivers have started a race from the front row — and remarkably, Cam Waters isn't one of them, despite being ninth all-time for pole positions. Waters sits fourth despite being winless and poleless, with just two podiums to his name in 16 starts.

Trophies have also been dished out at will this season. Nearly 60% of the grid has claimed a podium already. Only Matt Stone Racing, PremiAir Racing and Erebus Motorsport have yet to trouble the podium.

Why this matters

Supercars has long held the reputation for being the most competitive touring car championship in the world, and is among the most competitive championships in world motorsport period.

The introduction of the new Supra and Triple Eight's move to Ford have been key to this year's topsy turvy results sheet. 2024 champion Will Brown has one pole and two podiums to his name, and is winless. Waters and Brown are the big names yet to land a big blow in 2026.

Where the last three seasons have seen the cream rise to the top, a more competitive landscape throughout the field could see drivers take points and podiums away from each other as they fight to claim Finals positions and, later, the championship.

You only have to look back as recently as Tasmania, where seven different drivers from six different teams — across all three manufacturers — stood on the podium.

The 2026 season resumes in Darwin on June 19-21.
