Townsville hosting back-to-back motorsport events
Australian Karting Championship stopped in North Queensland the past weekend
Supercars' NTI Townsville 500 kicks off on Friday
Supercars race week has arrived in Townsville, as preparations continue for this weekend’s NTI Townsville 500 on the streets of Reid Park.
It is a huge fortnight of motorsport in Townsville, which hosted the Australian Karting Championship this past weekend at the Townsville Kart Club.
Supercars and the AKC joined forces this morning, bringing grassroots and professional motorsport together across two weekends in North Queensland.
Brad Jones Racing Supercars driver Macauley Jones competed in the AKC event on the weekend and will race his Toyota GR Supra this weekend, as the Japanese giant makes its Townsville debut in the Championship.
Jones was joined Monday morning at Reid Park by several class winners from the AKC event, including Jenson Damaschino (KA3 Junior), Brock Nolan (Cadet 12), and Alfi Lucchetti (Cadet 9), who all aspire to one day follow Jones into top level professional racing.
On his karting exploits, Jones explained: "I'm just doing it for fun, and preparation for the Supercars, getting ready for this week coming up.
"I definitely feel ready, I've got a lot more heat acclimation to me from getting out of the winter of Albury."
Townsville Mayor Nick Dametto and Member for Townsville Adam Baillie MP were also in attendance, as the city prepares for North Queensland’s largest annual sporting event this weekend.
Festivities and fan activations continue Wednesday with the NTI Transporter Parade from 11:45 a.m. AEST, with a dedicated fan zone at the iconic Townsville Sign.
Fans can then see the stars and cars of the Championship on Thursday at Track to Town, where all 26 Supercars will drive from Reid Park to Palmer Street, with a driver signing session to follow at Tiny Mountain Brewery.
On-track Supercars action in Townsville begins with practice at 10:35 a.m. AEST on July 10, with one Supercars race on each of the three days of the event.
The NTI Townsville 500 will take place over three days from July 10-12, 2026.
Tickets for general admission, grandstands, and corporate hospitality are now on sale through Supercars.com.
The NTI Townsville 500 is proudly supported by the Queensland Government through Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ), the Townsville City Council, and Townsville Enterprise Limited.
