Qualifying on the front row historically pivotal to race wins in Townsville
The last 10 Super2 races in Townsville have been won from the front row
Four drivers have split the four available Boost Mobile Pole Awards in 2025
If you want to win a Dunlop Super2 Series race in Townsville, history shows that the most important recipe of all could very well be a front row start.
Next weekend's NTI Townsville 500 will be the 17th time that the development series has raced at Reid Park, including back-to-back weekends in the COVID-impacted 2021 season.
In that time, there have been 37 races held, and remarkably 30 of those have been won from either first or second on the grid, making up 81% of all Super2 races held in Townsville.
Dating back to the first leg of the Townsville doubleheader in 2021, all 10 races that have been held at Reid Park since then have been won from the front row of the grid, six from pole position.
Last year both races were won from the front row, with Jack Perkins claiming Race 5 honours from pole position, and Kai Allen prevailing in Race 6 after besting polesitter Zach Bates off the start.
Of the races won from beyond the front row, four of them have come from third on the grid, whilst Chris Pither was promoted to a win in 2014 after Cam Waters spun leader Ash Walsh at the final corner.
The furthest back anyone has won a race from in Townsville is 10th, with Steve Owen and Scott McLaughlin achieving the feat in 2010 and 2012 respectively by virtue of reverse top 10 grids. Both drivers went on to secure the Super2 title that year.
The 2025 season has been an open affair, with four different pole sitters and race winners in the opening four races of the year in Sydney and Tasmania.
Cameron McLeod, Cody Burcher, Rylan Gray, and Bates have all claimed a Boost Mobile Pole Award each in the opening four races of the season.
To underscore just how tight this season has been, the average pole margin for 2025 sits at just 0.0613s, with Burcher's margin of 0.0919s over Eggleston Motorsport teammate Jordyn Sinni for Race 2 in Sydney the largest of the year to date.
