Lowndes to complete decorated Triple Eight tenure in Bathurst
The combination of Craig Lowndes and Triple Eight has become part of the Supercars furniture.
Over the last 21 years, the partnership has become one of the longest-standing, and most successful team and athlete partnerships in Australian sport, with Lowndes' arrival at Banyo in 2005 signalling the beginning of a dominant era that continues to this day.
Whilst he never added to his tally of three ATCC/Supercars titles from the late 1990's, despite going close on several occasions, it was undoubtedly at his beloved Mount Panorama where the combination was at it's devastating best.
A three-peat of wins alongside Jamie Whincup from 2006-08, followed by victories with Mark Skaife in 2010, and Steven Richards in 2015 and 2018 cemented Lowndes' legacy as one of the undisputed greats of Supercars.
Indeed, his Bathurst record with Triple Eight is one of the most successful team and driver partnerships ever seen at Bathurst, with six wins backed up by podiums in 2011, 2012, and 2013.
Dating back to 1963, Lowndes and Triple Eight are second on the list of the most successful partnerships in the history of The Great Race, fittingly behind his great friend and mentor.
Unsurprisingly, the King of the Mountain, Peter Brock, tops this list thanks to his incredible feats with the Holden Dealer Team.
Quite possibly the most iconic team and driver combination in Bathurst history, Brock and the HDT were almost unstoppable in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
Three-peats from 1978-80 with Jim Richards and 1982-84 with Larry Perkins cemented Brock's legacy as an immortal of Australian motorsport, whilst his 1972 win in the final 500-mile race established his star, and his final win in 1987 came against the world's best, and after Holden had pulled their factory support.
All of the co-drivers from the respective three-peats also feature among the top combinations, with Jamie Whincup and Triple Eight third on the list despite a number of near misses since his last win in 2012.
