Jamie Whincup will go head-to-head with former boss next season
Roland Dane signed on to become PremiAir Racing Team Principal in 2026
Dane oversaw Whincup's seven championships with Triple Eight
Roland Dane is set to take on the empire he built in Supercars, and Jamie Whincup is ready to go "head-to-head" with his former boss.
It pits Dane against his former prized driver Whincup, who took over as Triple Eight boss from the Irishman in 2022.
It also breathes new life into the Ford versus General Motors battle, with Triple Eight shifting to the Blue Oval, 15 years after Dane took it to Holden.
Dane has been advising PremiAir Racing throughout the season, and was on the ground with the team in Ipswich.
When asked about Dane’s new deal in a media call, Whincup gave little away, but was keen to take on his old boss.
“I saw like you did that RD is now a team principal at PremiAir Racing,” Whincup said.
“Congratulations to him. He will take a heap of knowledge there and no doubt improve their performance.
“So yep, 100 percent, we’ll go head-to-head.”
PremiAir has been linked to a double driver change for 2026, and recently raised eyebrows with a stunning performance in Bathurst, as outgoing driver James Golding crossed the line first.
The team is currently 10th in points, and in the PremiAir release, Dane reiterated that while there are bright spots, there’s plenty of growth to be had.
"Working with the team this year has allowed me to really get a deep understanding of how the team operates and how they all work together,” Dane said.
“There are definitely some good points with this team but also room for improvement which I'm keen to get involved with next year."
Whincup's two drivers, Broc Feeney and Will Brown, will commence their Finals campaigns at this weekend's Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500. Tickets are on sale now.
