Harri Jones' maiden Supercar laps at Bathurst come to a crunching halt
Two-time Porsche champion caught out by puddle at The Chase
Heavy damage inflicted to #18 Camaro in 56g impact
Harri Jones' maiden Repco Bathurst weekend got off to the worst possible start with a heavy crash in the opening co-driver session of the weekend.
In tricky damp conditions, the two time Porsche Carrera Cup Australia champion appeared to hit a puddle exiting The Chase, flaring the #18 Camaro into wheelspin and a lurid slide.
Jones, who will share the car with Finals aspirant Anton De Pasquale on Sunday, made big contact with the concrete on driver's left, lifting the right hand side of the car into the air.
The Queenslander climbed out of the car under his own power, however Team 18 will have a big task ahead of them to repair the car, which sustained heavy damage.
"He's gone onto the kerb on the right, and it's obviously fired him to the left. Might be a bit of damp there or something," said De Pasquale.
"It's an honest mistake, but we'll see what the damage is like, obviously a side impact, a concrete wall, it's not going to be pretty.
"We'll fix it up, it won't be a drama. Our car was pretty good earlier on. The hardest thing is it's a lack of laps for him, I think our car is going to be fine, but time will tell."
Jayden Ojeda got away with a similar moment after hitting the puddle in the #2 Mobil 1 Truck Assist Mustang mere seconds before Jones went off, whilst the incident played out right in front of teammate Lee Holdsworth in David Reynolds' #20 Camaro.
"Unfortunately I was just behind Harri. He hit a puddle coming out of The Chase, and it just spat him sideways.
"I feel terrible for him obviously, the boys and girls in the team as well."
It capped off a wild day at the Mountain for the 26-year-old, who earlier crashed in the sole Porsche Carrera Cup practice session at Murrays Corner.
De Pasquale currently sits seventh in the 2025 Repco Supercars Championship, 191 points ahead of the Finals cut-line. Should lingering damage impact on the car's performance for the balance of the weekend, it could lead to a nervous Sunday for Team 18.
