Team ENZED FPR’s Cameron Waters is focusing on the big picture when the Dunlop Series heads to the Winton 400 this Friday.

Following a disappointing end to the opening round at the Clipsal 500, Waters says he’s targeting consistent qualifying results and is hoping to earn as many points as possible to make up lost ground on series leader Paul Dumbrell.

Waters started the year on a high after claiming his maiden Dunlop Series ARMOR ALL Pole Position ahead of race one and went onto finish second.

The 19-year old then qualified second for race two but contact with Ash Walsh in a battle for the lead saw Waters drop to 22nd place as a result of damage to his Falcon.

According to Waters, the incident was a result of lapped traffic.

“It shouldn’t have happened to begin with,” Waters said.

“The lapped cars caused the whole thing. If they had have gotten out of the way I would have had my gap and probably won the race.

“Ash and I had a bit of a race and he didn’t give me enough room on the exit of the corner, we banged wheels and that was it.”

The poor race result hasn’t fazed Waters. The series heads to Winton next – a track Waters has a great deal of experience at as well as being Team ENZED FPR’s test track.

“I’m pretty confident heading to Winton. I’ve done plenty of laps there,” he said.

“The car should be quick there. We had good pace there at Adelaide so hopefully we have the same at Winton.”

With a strong car and a further six rounds of the series left, Waters is taking a relaxed approach and has confidence that consistency will make up for the poor race finish in Adelaide.

“I’ve got to qualify well every weekend so I’m up the front and get good starts so I can finish races up the front,” he said.

“I know the car’s got good pace. Now I just need to finish races, be up the front for the rest of the year and hopefully the race will sort itself out,” added Waters.

The Winton 400 takes place April 4-6; with practice the first of the Dunlop Series action on Friday.
