Prodrive Racing Australia's Cameron Waters has set the benchmark ahead of this weekend's racing, clocking the fastest time in first practice this morning at the Coates Hire Ipswich SuperSprint.

The current series leader topped the time sheets late in the session, setting the quickest time duringthe 30-minute practice with a 1min12.67.

Ice Break Racing's Chris Pither trailed Waters by .22secs, settling for second fastest after holding the top spot for the majority of the session.

Todd Hazelwood was third fastest, ahead of MW Motorsport's Jack Le Brocq and two-time V8 Supercars Dunlop Series Champion Paul Dumbrell.

Series rookie and Paul Morris Motorsport pilot Bryce Fullwood was inside the top ten as he made his V8 Supercar debut at Queensland Raceway, taking the chequered flag sixth fastest.

Macauley Jones was the first Brad Jones Racing Commodore home, ahead of Paul Morris, Ant Pedersen and Andrew Jones, who completed the top ten.

After being delayed by 30-minutes due to fog, the session was interrupted once by a red flag after Dan Day stopped on the circuit. He ended the session 20th.

Aaren Russell was just outside the top ten in 11th, while home-track heros and series rookies Renee Gracie and Shae Davies were 13th and 14th respectively.

James Golding settled for 15th fastest, followed by Simon Evans and Jessee Dixon.

As he adjusts to his new Ford this weekend, Brett Hobson was 19th on the time sheets, while Phill Woodbury was 21st as he steps in to Kurt Kostecki's #4 Commodore this weekend.

The Dunlop Series will return to Queensland Raceway this afternoon for practice two at 2.20pm.
