Cameron Waters has apologised for today's late-race contact with Ash Walsh, that took both drivers out of race contention.

Despite having told v8supercars.com.au that he felt the penalty was undeserved, Waters posted an apology to Walsh on his Facebook page after seeing the footage, where he said he was "gutted" with the result of the chaotic 29 lap race.

The contact at the final corner of the last lap saw stewards immediately issue Waters a 30-second time penalty, relegating the ENZED driver to the rear of the pack in 21st place.

Walsh crossed the line in 19th after the incident, while Chris Pither capitalised on the unfortunate circumstances, taking his first Dunlop Series win.

The Dunlop Series action resumes tomorrow, with qualifying for race two kicking off at 9.25am AEST.
