He finished second to series rival Paul Dumbrell in this afternoon’s final race, but Cameron Waters has beaten out the veteran to be crowned the 2015 V8 Supercars Dunlop Series Champion.

Dumbrell crossed the line first in the 17-lap race, with a 0.58 second lead over his series rival, narrowing the points gap to 77 points.

But it wasn’t enough for Dumbrell to claim his third title, with Waters deservedly taking the crown after a stellar year for the Prodrive Racing Australia prodigy.

With his main game teammate Mark Winterbottom sealing the V8 Supercars Championship yesterday, Prodrive becomes the first team to win both drivers championships since 2011.

“It’s awesome for Prodrive, all my boys, ENZED – I couldn’t have done it without them,” Waters said following his series victory.

“I can’t thank Mum and Dad, all my family, everyone who supported me this year enough.

“It’s just awesome for Prodrive to win the main championship, win the Dunlop Series. Number one Prodrive.

“It’s been a bloody awesome year to be honest. Winning heaps of races and this, and then teaming up with Chazzie [Mostert] and getting to drive his car. I can’t thank Prodrive, my sponsors, my family enough. It’s unreal.”

ARMOR ALL Pole Position winner Jack Le Brocq followed the title contenders home in third after an unfortunate start saw him swamped by a charging pack.

Despite the start he kept up with the leaders, pressuring Waters for his second place, but remained third.

He finished second for the round behind round-winner Dumbrell, with Todd Hazelwood rounding out the top three for the round after finishing sixth in the race this afternoon.

Andrew Jones held on to finish fourth in the final race, followed by Tekno Autosports team owner Jonathon Webb, Hazelwood and Aaren Russell.

Shae Davies and James Golding rounded out the top ten.

The safety car was deployed when Matt Chahda’s Ford Falcon was stranded on the circuit after contact with Josh Kean’s Commodore.

Both drivers’ races were ended, with Kean disgruntled with the lap-three incident.

“ I really wanted to finish the year off nicely,” Kean said following the incident.

“I’m just not sure what the desperation is about in the opening laps.

“It’s ended not the way we wanted it to. That’s the end of our 2015.”

Following the restart on lap six, rookie Liam McAdam was caught out by the fast turn-6, brushing the concrete wall, finishing 13th.

The 2016 Dunlop Series will kick off next March at the Clipsal 500 Adelaide.
