ENZED FPR driver Cameron Waters won his first Dunlop Series race yesterday, having just joined the powerhouse Ford team this season.

Waters lept from second on the grid and kept the close field – which included Steve Owen, Ash Walsh and series leader Paul Dumbrell – at bay for 25 laps around Winton Raceway, declaring himself a contender for the development category.

“The race was really good,” Waters said.

“I had a great start and that was crucial. Once I got away I gapped the field and kept hitting my marks and it pushed out to 10-seconds.

“The ENZED Ford was awesome and I couldn’t fault it.”

The result gives him the best possible starting position for this afternoon’s second 25-lap dash.

“I am looking forward to starting from pole,” he said.

“I am relieved to get the first win in V8 Supercars and to do it in style was pretty cool so hopefully we can back it up.”

Following him home were Owen and Walsh, with Andrew Jones, Dumbrell, Paul Morris, Morgan Haber, Garry Jacobson, Andre Heimgartner and Taz Douglas completing the top 10.

Waters has also proven he is a worthy PIRTEK Enduro Cup co-driver when the long distance V8 Supercars races begin later this year. Waters will run with Jack Perkins in the JELD-WEN Ford for the Wilson Security Sandown 500, Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 and Gold Coast 600.

The Dunlop Series will contest the second race at the Winton 400 at 1.15pm local time today.
